Next-Generation Oral Drug Delivery: Emerging Trends, Smart Technologies, and Biopharmaceutical Enhancements
Submission Abstract:
Oral drug delivery remains the most preferred route for pharmaceutical administration due to its convenience, patient compliance, and cost-effectiveness. However, challenges such as poor bioavailability, instability, and lack of targeted delivery necessitate continuous innovation in formulation and drug delivery technologies. This special issue explores cutting-edge advancements in oral dosage forms, including smart and adaptive drug delivery systems, nanotechnology-based formulations, and AI-driven design strategies. With the rise of 3D printing, personalized medicine, and hybrid technologies, the pharmaceutical landscape is rapidly evolving toward precision therapeutics that optimize drug efficacy, safety, and patient outcomes. This issue aims to highlight novel approaches in dosage form design, targeted drug delivery, and digital-driven formulation science, considering the aspects of molecular pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics, bridging the gap between research innovation and clinical translation.
This special issue invites high-quality research articles, reviews, and short communications covering key topics such as AI-assisted formulation development, advanced encapsulation techniques, microbiome-influenced oral delivery, and gastro-retentive systems. The integration of novel excipients, biomimetic drug carriers, and regulatory perspectives on emerging oral drug delivery technologies will also be addressed. By fostering discussions on next-generation oral dosage forms, this issue seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of ways forward for smart technologies and biopharmaceutical enhancements in shaping the future of oral pharmacotherapy. We welcome contributions from academia, industry, and regulatory experts to advance the scientific and practical knowledge in this evolving field.
