Oxidative and Inflammatory Responses in the Development of Secondary Diabetic Complications

Submission Abstract:

Diabetes, along with its associated secondary complications, represents a significant global health challenge, contributing significantly to morbidity and mortality. Unhealthy lifestyle habits, reduced physical activity, environmental pollutants, and stress are pivotal factors in the onset of diabetes, particularly type-2 diabetes. Poorly managed hyperglycemia can lead to various complications, including neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, cardiovascular issues, and cataractogenesis. Recent research underscores the impact of heightened reactive oxygen species during hyperglycemia, inducing cellular oxidative stress and disrupting inflammatory responses, thereby contributing to the pathogenesis of diverse diabetic complications. To advance our comprehension of the molecular mechanisms governing oxidative stress and inflammation pathways, a comprehensive exploration is imperative for understanding disease pathology and developing innovative therapeutic approaches. This special issue endeavors to assemble cutting-edge insights into the role of oxidative stress and inflammation in diabetic complications. We invite authors to contribute compelling review articles elucidating the underlying mechanisms of oxidative stress and inflammation in the development of diabetes complications, with the ultimate goal of fostering advancements in the treatment of these complex conditions.
