Next-Generation Green Remediation: Tackling Emerging Pollutants in a Changing Environment
Submission Abstract:
Environmental systems are increasingly challenged by emerging pollutants—including pharmaceuticals, personal care products, endocrine disruptors, microplastics, PFAS, industrial additives, and transformation products—that are persistent, bioactive, and difficult to remove using conventional treatment methods. At the same time, climate change, resource limitations, and tightening environmental regulations demand sustainable, low-energy, and eco-efficient remediation solutions.
This special issue aims to gather cutting-edge research, reviews, and perspectives on next-generation green remediation technologies capable of addressing these complex contaminants while minimizing ecological footprints. Emphasis is placed on innovative processes and materials, mechanistic insights, real-world case studies, and holistic approaches combining environmental chemistry, advanced materials, biotechnology, modelling, and systems engineering.
The goal is to present a comprehensive and forward-thinking collection that advances sustainable remediation science and supports the development of resilient environmental systems in a rapidly changing world.
