Innovative Materials and Technologies for Sustainable Environmental Pollution Mitigation
Submission Abstract:
Environmental pollution, including water, air, soil, noise, and solid waste, remains a critical global concern, further exacerbated by emerging contaminants such as pharmaceuticals, perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, microplastics, volatile organic compounds, and persistent heavy metals. This thematic issue aims to highlight cutting-edge advancements in materials and technologies, including microbiological approaches and artificial intelligence applications, designed to remediate, control, and monitor pollution while aligning with sustainability and circular economy principles.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the development and application of diverse materials such as nanomaterials, bio-based adsorbents, biochar, composites, catalysts, membranes, and hybrid chemical-biological systems, along with microbiological strategies including bioaugmentation, biostimulation, and microbial consortia. These approaches aim to develop innovative, efficient, cost-effective, and scalable solutions, particularly when integrated with AI-driven tools for modeling, predictive analytics, and decision-making.
By examining these domains both individually and synergistically, the collection seeks to advance sustainable, efficient, and scalable pollution mitigation strategies aligned with circular economy principles and environmental sustainability. Through the integration of materials science, chemical engineering, and environmental management, this thematic issue aspires to foster interdisciplinary approaches that support cleaner ecosystems and more resilient communities.
